Margretta I. Gessner, 100, of Middleburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Franklin Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Oren and Sallie (Shilling) Zechman.
Margretta was a long-time member of Beavertown God's Missionary Church.
She worked as a seamstress for various garment manufacturers in the area.
Margretta was known to be a great quilter and enjoyed sewing. She also liked puzzles, working in her flower beds, canning, and baking for her family. Over the years, she was a foster grandparent and opened her house to numerous children.
She is survived by one son, David (Wendy) Gessner; two daughters, Donna Kratzer, Janet (Paul) Scholl; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Charles (Helen) Zechman; three sisters, Anna Kitner, Betty Rothermel, Mary Schaffner.
Margretta was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel and William Gessner; one granddaughter, one great-grandchild, four brothers, Gilbert, Elwood, Richard, and Carl Zechman; three sisters, Frances Walter, Ruth Walter, and Gladys Brought.
Family and friends will be received Friday, April 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Beavertown God's Missionary Church, 1693 Creek Road, Middleburg, followed by the funeral service at 11 with the church ministries officiating.
Burial will follow in Beavertown God's Missionary Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Kreamer Funeral Home, 130 S. Zechman St., Beavertown.
